The company was formed in February 2008 by Philip Crawford, Laura Hughes and Catherine Kelly. Happenstance Theatre Company aspires to bring high quality drama to increasingly informed audiences in a way that entertains and educates. The centrepiece of our company activity is the play. We aim to produce drama of complex simplicity, which is uncluttered and meticulous. Our approach is a collaboration between art and science enabling creativity through attention to detail. Each element of the production is fine-tuned and brought together in a relationship which illuminates the play as a whole. It is our objective to provide opportunities for further exploration of issues raised in the drama through a variety of methods such as tailor-made workshops, information displayed at venues and in programmes, and where appropriate, guest speakers. In this way, we hope to engage both audiences and artists, and stimulate debate on issues which speak to our times.
